Get a taste of the Grand Rapids Marathon! Come out and run with us for 10 or 20 miles!

Please join Team World Vision and our Marathon Staff for the official Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon 10 & 20 Mile Training Run. The course will preview a portion of the actual Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon route as well as some beautiful parts of Millennium Park.  Aid Stations with water and Gatorade will be available every 2 or 3 miles. There will be accessible bathrooms at mile 3 & 17 (Kent County Parks Trailhead). No registration fee–but SIGN UP so we get an idea how many to expect.

Event details:

Saturday, SEPTEMBER 29, 2018 – 7:30am at the David D. Hunting YMCA

Restrooms are available at the start and finish line (at the Y), at about 3 miles (Trailhead) and half way point. You will also find an aid station every 2-3 miles. Water and Gatorade on the course, maybe a surprise or two. But if you have special nutrition needs, bring it with you.

Here’s the course:

Route for 10 mile:
From the start line, south to Watson, east to Front, south to Wealthy, jump on bike path as soon as we can and follow the path across the back of the Coke plant. Aid station where the trailhead restrooms are. Continue to the loop that we use for the BQ.2 race. It’s about 2 3/4 miles to there. Do the BQ loop once, then return to the Y by the same route. 
Route for 20 mile: 
From the start line, south to Watson, east to Front, south to Wealthy, jump on bike path as soon as we can and follow the path to where we turn into the Serengeti (Butterworth Park). Turn and go around the back of the Serengeti. Turn left onto Kent trails. Aid station where the trailhead restrooms are. Continue to the loop that we use for BQ.2 race. It’s about 3.65 miles to there. (The loop is 4.05 miles long and really beautiful!) Do the BQ loop three times, then return to the Y by the same route. 
Both of these leave us about 1/2 mile short. So on the way around the loop, (first time for 20 milers) we cross the bike bridge and go down to the 15 mile mark of the GR Marathon route for a short out-and-back before continuing the loop. 
On the loop–aid stations off Butterworth and at the little cul de sac off Vets Memorial. 20 milers will hit each of those 3 times. Everyone will hit the one at the trailhead on the way out and back.
This will all be marked with chalk at the corners. Roads will be open, but most of the time we won’t be on them–we’ll be on paved bike paths.

 

 

The event starts at 7:30am and ends at 12pm (there is a 4.5 hour time limit)

Please note that the course will not be closed. Please make sure to practice proper runner safety.
